New Year’s Tips For Your Pet

New Year’s can be lots of fun celebrating with friends, watching the ball drop at home or even lighting off fireworks with a glass of champagne. For your pet it can be a little stressful with the additional noise.
Whether your staying at home to celebrate or going out on the town, here are a few tips to keep your furry guy safe this New Year’s.

Exercise, Exercise, Exercise!
Take your pet on a long walk or anything that will get all that anxiety and extra energy out. This will help your pet relax. When your pet is out of energy, they will usually go lay down in their favorite place and sleep.
Leaving a TV or radio on.
Try leaving calming music playing to distract your pet from the noise. You may also try their favorite TV show as an option. Placing them in a comfortable area where they feel secure and relaxed will also help.
Try Calming Therapies.
There are many products out there for calming your pet. Lavender is a common one used for calming.  Try burning some lavender oil in your wax burner, or a lavender plug in. You can also find calming collars for your pet and we’ve all heard of the Thunder Shirt. Sometimes these simple changes can help ease your pet’s anxiety.
Talk to your Veterinarian.

If you find that nothing seems to help relieve your pet’s stress, contact your vet. They will be able to explain the different options available that best fit your pet’s needs.
