How to keep your pet warm in cold weather
How to keep your pet warm in cold weather
We are all familiar with Nebraska weather. It can be 79
degrees one day and snowing the next. It is important to keep your pet safe
during these cold months. We recommend that you NEVER leave your pet outside
for long periods of time when it’s cold. That doesn’t mean your pet can’t enjoy
a little outdoor playtime. Here are some ways to keep your pet safe in the
bitter cold.
• Use a sweater or coat for your pet. This will help hold in
body heat and keep vital organs warm.
• Be sure your pet has a place to warm up. If you’re pet
must be outside, make sure they have an insulated area to stay warm and protect
them from the wind. We always recommend you keep outdoor time limited.
• Wipe your pet’s paws after playing outdoors. Ice, snow and
chemicals can build up on your pet’s paws. This can cause extreme discomfort
for your pet.
• Watch for warning signs in your pet. If your pet starts
showing signs of hypothermia or frostbite be sure to visit your vet as soon as possible.
